ASSET test results: 2010 winter round

This year, 19 students from our school participated in the ASSET test conducted by Educational initiatives. According to their data, around 350,000 students all over India took the test. This being a large number of students, we believe it is a good benchmark of a student's standing among his/her peers all over the country.

We are happy to note that three of our students got an outstanding performance certificate, which means they were among the top 1% of the students all over the country. This is almost similar to being a rank-holder in a board exam.

Two more of our students were among the top 5% of the students, and four more were in the top 15%. This shows that around half of the Levelfield School students put in a really strong performance.

A few interesting points:

Most of these students who took the test this year joined our school last year from a vernacular medium background. When they joined, some of them could not even read and understand a sentence in English. For them to take a test like this, and come out in flying colours - is indeed a significant achievement for themselves and for the school.

In addition, we believe that a test like ASSET is still primarily taken by students of better schools in metro cities. So the competition is of higher quality than what would have been if all the students of the country would have taken the test (as in a board exam). So 85 percentile here probably translates into a little higher over a nationwide sample.
